Farewell Sorcha

I’m sad to say my little Sorcha (a Maltese smaller than most cats) has moved on.

She went through a lot of hard times and always bounced back. This picture shows her after major surgery four years ago. A bandage is visible, still wrapped around her middle, but her attitude does not betray the tough week she had just endured.

Below the picture, I’ve added a few words that came to mind after our final trip to the vet. They were inspired by a conversation with my sister about our feelings for pets – how the narrow focus sharpens our pain so greatly when we lose them.

NOTE: I put Sorcha’s page here for simplicity’s sake: it is not “officially” part of this site. People who know about it generally come by way of a direct link that was sent to them. Even so, there’s an item about Sorcha under the “More” tab (above right) so you can always click back from that page.

Post-Op Sorcha

To Sorcha, I was all-powerful, like a god.

That accented my personal failings with ego-crushing certainty, of course. But I was overjoyed to give such a frail-looking dish-rag on legs a way to express her love of life so mightily.

Today I’m hurt because the only God that counts chose to take over from here.

But He thanked me for filling in: The hurt will pass, not the joy.
